Research and Academic Leadership

In order to provide the highest quality of eye care and even better care in the future, the Ophthalmos Eye and Laser Centre runs clinical research in its areas of subspecialties. From our research we have discovered a new treatment for early dry macular degeneration. We have also discovered a new therapy for severe dry eyes.

Committed to the education of future care professionals, concerning the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the eye diseases, provided teaching to the medical students, learning the advanced technology in diagnostic scans, optometry and orthoptics.

In the congress of the European society of ophthalmology, June 2008, Vienna- Austria, Dr. Tassos Georgiou presented for the first time "treatment of pellucids marginal degeneration with crosslinking and topography guided laser –new therapy". Dr. Tassos Georgiou was invited to present his findings at both the European & World conferences in 2009 & 2010, demonstrating his commitment and quality of care to the treatment of keratoconus.

Latest research from Ophthalmos Eye and Laser Centre is for treatment for diseases of the retina. The new treatment gives the opportunity to treat retinal diseases in a way that was not previously possible. The treatment will have a positive impact on a large portion of the population. There is a patent application number of the compound in EPO (European Patent Organisation) from September 2011.
